Moha Emotional Attachment

Query: Moha... What is the exact meaning of "moha" word from a hindi sentence "Moha-Maya". I just want the exact meaning of "Moha".

Vijay Kumar:
The deeply imbibed feeling of attachment that inherently exists within every human being is termed Moha. In essence of Moha (deep-rooted feeling of attachment) life in the Cosmos simply could not exist. None would care for others. Mothers would not care for their children. The society would go haywire!

It is the feeling of Moha that keeps mothers attached to their children until they manifest themselves. In India... parents take care of their children until they mature and stand on their legs... irrespective of the age! In the Western system... children develop sufficient maturity to live separately after 16 years of age.

In India... it is the bondage of Moha that keeps children attached to their parents... until they feel comfortable living on their own! This deep imbibed feeling of Moha was inbuilt into the cosmic system by God Almighty to keep the system under wraps. Devoid of Moha... feeling of attachment... none would care for the other... community living becoming meaningless!

It is the deep intense feeling of Moha (attachments) that makes a lady wipe tears of a child crying on the street. Moha is simply not an emotional feeling... it is much more beyond that! To inculcate the feeling of brotherhood... for the society to survive... the existence of Moha (deep emotional attachment) is a necessity!

If a child does not fare well in class... the Mother attends to the child for she inherently desires her siblings to be the best in the world. This feeling of attachment... this definition of pure love stems from Moha existing within every living being. The emotional bondage that exists between brothers and sisters owes its existence to the feeling of Moha!

Most human beings in life fail to travel the path of Vanprastha ashram (the period of contemplation) that is expected to start after 50 years of age. Furthermore... one out of hundred enters the field of sanyasa (renunciation)... and the balance bogged down by Moha enjoys the pleasures of their grandchildren.

After having lived a well settled life... as per the sacred scriptures human beings must enter the Vanprastha ashram. It is not a necessity nor a compulsion but a requirement of the soul atman within. It is our soul atman that has manifested the body... the human form to work out its karma... remove the dross impurities within!

Thereafter one is supposed to enter sanyasa ashram (the stage of renunciation) when the bondage of Moha... the shackles of Moha must be cut across forever! On the path of renunciation... there is no place for Moha (attachments in its purest form). It is this world of Moha Maya... that dissuades one from traveling the sanyasa stage of life.

As per the scriptures... every human being... every truthful seeker of spirituality needs cutting across the shackles of Moha forever. One needs getting away from the world of Samsara (worldly life) by freeing self from the bondage of Moha forever! If we keep our family ties live... entering the stage of sanyasa would always remain a dream!

In the initial stages of life... we are bonded to our children. In the later stages of life... we are still bonded... but to our grandchildren. Unless we cut across the bondage of Moha... this vicious cycle of Samsara continues unabated... the prime reason why the world of Moha has been termed as Moha Maya... a world of illusion!

Truly speaking... in the world of Moha Maya... God Almighty is the only truth of life. Apart from God Almighty... the individual souls' atmans... nothing ever exists in the whole Cosmos... the prime reason why Adi Shankaracharya has termed the whole Samsara (worldly life) as the world of Maya (veil of illusion)!
